 AKC Hunt Tests provide a
venue for testing the dog’s natural and trained ability to hunt. At
these tests, dogs compete against set performance standards for
qualifying scores. Dogs may accumulate qualifying scores and
eventually attain titles at the varying levels of difficulty: Junior
Hunter (JH), Senior Hunter (SH), and Master Hunter (MH).
- Junior Hunter Stake – tests the dog’s
ability to retrieve single marks on land and in water and to
deliver to hand (among other things).
- Senior Hunter Stake – tests the dog’s
ability to be steady to shot, retrieve double marks on land and in
water, honor, and a walk-up (among other things). Blind retrieves
on land and water are required as well.
- Master Hunter Stake – tests the
finished hunting retriever. Dogs must exhibit extreme control and
complete multiple marks and blinds in simulated hunting
situations.
For
the rules and regulations governing AKC Hunt Tests, please see
Regulations and Guidelines for AKC Hunting Tests for Retrievers.
